Surgical Procedures - Sebaceous Cyst Removal
Sebaceous Cyst Removal
Sebaceous cyst removal is usually a minor surgical procedure performed to remove a fluid- or keratin-filled lump beneath the skin.
How is this procedure performed?
Under local anesthesia, the surgeon makes a small incision over the cyst and carefully removes the entire cyst wall to reduce the risk of recurrence. If the cyst is inflamed or infected, drainage may be done first, with full removal performed later.
Downtime
Recovery is generally quick, often within a few days to a week. Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising may occur, especially if the cyst was inflamed or infected. Stitches, if used, are usually removed within 7–14 days depending on location.
Scars
Scarring is usually small and depends on the size of the cyst and incision. Most scars fade over time into a thin line. If the cyst was large or infected, the scar may be slightly more noticeable or irregular, but it typically improves with healing and time.
