Surgical Procedures - Scar Revision
Scar Revision
Scar revision is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance, texture or function of a scar. The scar and surrounding skin is first assessed then carefully excised or reshaped. The wound closure is done in a more refined way, often aligning the incision with natural skin tension lines to make it less visible.
Downtime
Recovery typically involves a few days to 1–2 weeks of reduced activity, depending on the size and location of the revision. Mild swelling, redness, and tightness are common early on.
Scars
While scar revision aims to improve appearance, it will still result in a new scar. However this new scar is usually finer, straighter, or better positioned to be less noticeable than the original. Over time, it typically fades and flattens, though final appearance depends on individual healing factors.
