Surgical Procedures - Lipoma Removal
Lipoma Removal
A lipoma removal is generally a minor surgical procedure used to excise a benign (non-cancerous) fatty lump that grows under the skin.
How is this procedure performed?
The area is first numbed with local anesthesia, then the surgeon makes a small incision over the lipoma. The fatty tissue is carefully separated from surrounding structures and removed in one piece when possible. The incision is then closed with sutures and covered with a dressing.
Downtime
Recovery is usually quick, with most people returning to normal activities within a few days. Mild soreness, swelling, or bruising at the site is common for the first week. If the lipoma was large or deep, recovery may take slightly longer, and strenuous activity may be restricted for 1–2 weeks.
Scars
Scarring is typically small and linear, depending on the size of the incision. Over time, the scar usually fades and becomes less noticeable.
