Surgical Procedures - Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to remove stubborn fat deposits and improve body contour. It is usually performed in conjunction with other procedures such as abdominoplasty.

How is this procedure performed?

This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. Small incisions are made in the skin and a thin tube called a cannula is inserted, which is moved back and forth to break up fat cells. A suction device then removes the loosened fat, allowing the surgeon to sculpt and reshape the targeted area for a smoother appearance.

Downtime

Recovery time varies, but most people can return to light activities within a few days to a week. Swelling, bruising, and soreness are common in the first couple of weeks, and compression garments are usually worn to reduce swelling and support healing.

Scars

Liposuction scars are generally small and discreet, as the incisions used to insert the cannula are only a few millimeters long. These scars are often placed in natural skin folds or less visible areas and tend to fade over time.
