Surgical Procedures - Mole Removal

Mole Removal

Surgical mole removal is a minor medical procedure used to completely remove a mole (nevus) from the skin. It is commonly performed for cosmetic reasons.

How is this procedure performed?

The mole along with a small margin of surrounding healthy tissue is excised to ensure complete removal. The wound is closed with stitches and the removed tissue is often sent to pathology to confirm it is benign.

Downtime

Recovery is generally quick and manageable. After the procedure, patients may experience mild soreness or tenderness for a few days. A bandage is usually applied, and basic wound care is required.

Scars

Some degree of scarring is unavoidable with any surgical mole removal, though its appearance can vary. Excisional surgery usually leaves a thin, linear scar that may appear pink or slightly raised at first before gradually fading over time.
